More about our unique approach...

The House of Compassion is your home for trauma-informed evidence-based; resources, consultation, supervision, and education on family violence and sexual assault. This includes violence across the lifespan (Child abuse and Abuse against older persons) with a focus on victim-survivors, but inclusive of working with people who use violence and any persons in the support system. We value the following 5 'C's of the House of Compassion: COMPASSION - The House of Compassion’s core principle is compassion and instils it in all its forms. We draw upon the works of Professor Paul Gilbert and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) to cultivate experiences of inner warmth, safeness and soothing within the three flows of compassion; Accepting, Giving and Self Compassion. COLLABORATION - The House of Compassion works closely together with you in preparation to ensure the achievement of your unique intended learning outcomes. Our facilitators and supervisors do not see themselves as experts. Instead, they make offers of information/experiences and are experts in facilitating collaborative learning. CLEVER - The House of Compassion draws on evidence-based approaches and information, whilst also integrating practice wisdom of facilitators and clients.Facilitators/Supervisors further broaden critical thinking and knowledge by challenging clients, and welcome being challenged in healthy discourse resulting in growth. CREATIVITY - The House of Compassion promotes learning by engaging clients in multi-faceted teaching tools and experiences rather than relying on didactic learning. Experiential opportunities can include the use of technology, real-time dramatizations, role-plays, artistic expressionism, and even a little fun. CALM - The House of Compassion proliferate safe and calm spaces by scanning and actively regulating clients’ nervous systems to engage in what is on offer.Facilitators/Supervisors integrate mindfulness practices and holding a deep focus on the neurobiology of trauma and trauma work. You will not only ‘C’ the House of Compassion difference but feel the difference in our services. Most importantly, the victim/survivors you engage will feel the difference and have better outcomes for it.
