Supervision Services
The House of Compassion offers a wide range of supervision. Supervision can be offered; one-on-one, small or large group, for single sessions or an ongoing journey of growth and professional development. Although supervision is preferably held in person, video conferencing supervision is also available.
The House of Compassion welcomes supervisees at any level of educational and/or work experience. Supervisors are qualified social workers with additional therapeutic and tertiary qualifications. They may also be Accredited Mental Health Social Workers, hold other AASW credentials, and/or, be psychotherapists. All supervisors at the House of Compassion are Tier 1, Expert level, Family Violence practitioners in accordance with the Victorian Government ‘Responding to Family Violence Capability Framework’.Supervisees and supervisors can create supervision goals focusing on:· Generalist social work skills· Generalist trauma focused work and counselling skills· Therapeutic modality skills (including guidance in trauma focused; Compassion focused therapy – CFT, Cognitive behavioural therapy – t-CBT, Cognitive processing therapy - CPT, Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing – EMDR, STAIR narrative therapy, Single session thinking – SST, Dialectal behavioural therapy – DBT, Synergetic play therapy - SPT)· Working in complex systems (such as Legal, health and Child Protective) including advocacy, impacts, and navigation.· Leadership skills, including upskilling in areas in accordance with the Allied health Professionals (State) Public Sector Awards· Developing knowledge and skills in accordance with the Victorian Government ‘Responding to Family Violence Capability Framework’· Cultivating compassion satisfaction and capacity to endure trauma work in the moment and long term.

The House of Compassion Supervisors utilise the Morrison 4x4x4 supervision model or The Bouverie Centre’s Clinical Supervision training (CST) in addition to other models, and are open to supervises preferred models. Supervisors also maintain AASW’s ‘Supervision Practice Standards’, as well as utilise the Victorian Government’s ‘Allied Health Clinical Supervision Framework’.
The House of Compassion Supervisors hold; excellent communication skills, ethical integrity, honesty, empathy and of course compassion. All supervision is founded on strong, safe and respectful relationships.
Group Supervision
The House of Compassion sees Group Supervision as the structured process of exploring; sector, community, workplace, and team challenges. In comparison to the focus on clinical practice as provided within our reflective practice service.
A compassion consultant would facilitate the sesssion/s holding a safe space for leadership to be part of the conversation.
Supervisor-focused Supervision
Supervision sessions specifically focused on developing skills as a supervisor of staff. This can include:
- How to foster healthy workplace relationships
- How to provide proffesional debriefing
- How to handle challenging conversations
- How to promote patient care, accountability, positive patient outcomes, and quality improvement projects, with staff
- How to raise competency and confidence in staff
- How to assess, discusss and grow workplace compassion satisfaction
Leadership-focused Supervision
Supervision sessions specifically to enhance your leadership qualities and can include the following:
- Learning to articulate core bussiness and sector lingo
- Understanding leadership roles and systems in Public Health, non-for profit and more.
- Exploring proffesionalisim, accountability, hierarchical respect whilst maintaining ethical practice.
- Holding onto the social work identity in leadership systems
- Support in upskilling in areas in accordance with the Allied health Professionals (State) Public Sector Awards
Professional Debriefing
Sessions using a formal process of one or many participants to debreif after a critical incidents or incident/s requiring containment. These are best held shortly after a stressful or traumatic event, and are designed to help individuals process their experiences, identify potential areas for improvement, and manage the psychological impact of the incident.
